Conan O'Brien and NBC are reportedly close to hammering out a deal in which O'Brien would leave the network – possibly opening the door for Jay Leno to return to "The Tonight Show."
On Friday, NBC execs and reps for O'Brien were close to determining the details of his departure, a source familiar with the negotiations tells the Associated Press. The deal might involve NBC offering the funnyman a settlement of more than $30 million and allowing him to launch a new show elsewhere as soon as this fall, the AP's souce says.
The news agency says two-and-half years remain on O'Brien's “Tonight Show” contract, and different reports place his annual salary anywhere from $10 million to $25 million
